The One Thing Holding Your Business Back: STAFF!

The One Thing Holding Your Business Back: STAFF!

Why is it that so many of us get stuck when it comes to hiring staff? You simply can’t grow your business without them, yet the thought of bringing someone new on board feels like a monumental challenge. Trust me, I’ve been there, and here’s what I’ve learned from my own hiring journey. I’d love to hear your thoughts too!

  1. Define Your Dream Team
Who is your ideal employee? Are they flexible with time? Do they thrive under pressure? Should they be kind, firm, quick on their feet? Write down every trait you’re looking for. This list is your roadmap to finding the right fit.

  2. Advertise Where They Are
Where does your ideal employee hang out? Is it on Seek, Instagram, TikTok? Know where your target candidates spend their time, and place your job ad where it’ll be seen by the right people.

  3. Use a Pre-Interview Questionnaire
Before jumping into interviews, have applicants fill out a questionnaire. This can save you heaps of time by quickly weeding out unsuitable candidates, leaving you with only those who fit the bill.

  4. Ace the Interview
Based on their responses, conduct interviews (or have your manager do it). Ask questions that dig deep into what really matters for the role. How flexible are they? How would their friends describe them? What are their goals over the next few years?

  5. Request a Video Submission
For those who pass the interview, have them send you a video answering your top five questions. My go-tos are all about attitude, problem-solving, and initiative. This step helps you really get a feel for their personality and fit.

  6. Find Your Perfect Match
Once they’ve cleared these hurdles, you’re likely close to finding your ideal candidate! Remember, it’s your business, your team, your choice — you have the final say on who joins your crew.

And if you’re feeling stuck or need advice along the way, I’m always here for a chat. Happy hiring!
